Batavia stayed strong in nonconference action on Friday with a 30-14 win over Plainfield East.

The Bulldogs had four touchdowns, three of which were completed by standout junior running back Anthony Scaccia. Senior wide receiver Zach Strittmatter also had a touchdown and senior Daniel Albrecht added six points on a field goal and a couple extra-point kicks.

This year's victory over the Bengals did not come as easy as last year's 48-7 win in Plainfield. Batavia's opponent was able to nail two touchdowns and a two-point conversion this time. Batavia also racked up a couple penalties during its first possession.

Batavia had the lead going into the second half, but not by much.

After an initial one-yard touchdown run by Scaccia, the Bulldogs followed up with an extra point and a 29-yard field goal, both from Albrecht.

Plainfield East responded with a touchdown to put the score at 10-6, but missed the extra point.

The score would stay that way during a tense last couple minutes of the first half.

Batavia would fumble the ball, and then both Plainfield and Batavia would fail to score before the clock ran out. Junior Micah Coffey, Batavia's starting quarterback, got sacked in the final minute of the first half.

Both teams would end up using all their first-half timeouts.

Stronger in Second Half

Batavia would fare better in the 3rd quarter, putting up 13 points from two touchdowns and a kick.

A 76-yard drive led to an 11-yard touchdown run by Scaccia. Then a 20-yard strike from Coffey to Strittmatter completed the second TD, with an extra-point kick to follow.

The Bengals would nab their last touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter. Their two-point conversion was also good, bouncing off one Bengals player into the hands of another to put the score at 23-14.

Scaccia would also have another touchdown in the fourth quarter, with another extra point from Albrecht. That would do it for points until the clock ran out.
