State Street Dance Studio, 9 N. Fourth St. in Geneva, will be welcoming Breaking Pointe’s Katie Martin from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, for a ballet master class.
Martin, from Grayslake, attended Point Park University, and has danced with Boston Ballet and Ballet West. She just wrapped up filming for the hit docudrama on the CW, Breaking Pointe, following dancers from the leading Midwest ballet company, Ballet West.
Breaking Pointe goes behind the stage curtain for an intense look at one of the most competitive ballet companies in the country, Ballet West, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Viewers got to see the competition and intensity that exist behind the scenes at a professional ballet company. We see the heartaches and hardships it takes to be a dancer and the overwhelming strength a dancer has on and off the stage.
Martin will teach a ballet master class for Intermediate/Advance dancers ages 12 and up. It will consist of a ballet technique class followed by a half hour of pointe. If you are not on pointe, you can opt to take just the ballet portion.
After the Master Class, Martin will answer questions and talk about her dance experience and being on Breaking Pointe. The cost for the Master Class is $25 for State Street students ($20 for the ballet portion) and $30 for all other dancers ($25 for the ballet portion).
You can pre-register by calling 630-232-0444.
