Second Saturday at Water Street Studios
Batavia Il - On Saturday, February 11th between 6pm and 10pm, Water Street Studios will be hosting its monthly Second Saturdays at the Studio. This event gives members of the public a unique opportunity to wander the vast Water Street Studios complex and talk to artists in their studios while the artists demonstrate their creative techniques. The featured artist will be Steven Lockwood, one of the Water Street Studios co-founders and gallery director. Steven is a talented sculptor currently working on his largest commission piece, approximately nine feet tall and five feet wide. “I designed what I wanted. It was nice to have a commissioner to give me pure freedom to make what I wanted to make for the inside of their home. Subjects that seem to have been born, or have aged into the mature forms that stand before us now fascinate me. Overall, my work is mostly about the beauty of a simple form and not necessarily about a deeper meaning”.
Water Street Studios will also incorporate local artisans who will be in attendance to sell their wares. These will include Watershed Soaps, Limestone Coffee and Tea as well as free massages given by Rachel McKillip and Sarah Collyer. “This is a new element that we are including in our of Second Saturday events.” says Joi Cuartero, art director at Water Street Studios. “We have a lot of great artisans in the area and by giving them a temporary home allows them to build a following to ramp up their business”
In addition, Water Street Studios has completely restocked Gallery H2O where original pieces of locally made art are available for under $200. Mark your calendars to take care of any Valentine's Day related gifts you may need to purchase.
