Third grade students in Julie Alholm’s English Language
Learners class at H. C. Storm School in Batavia collected pennies and other coins and dollars for the Batavia Public Library for one week in November. The project, called Pennies for Palabras [Pennies for Words], evolved after the students read the book Destiny’s Gift, in which a community helps to keep a local book store open for business. The $116.14 donation will be used to purchase bilingual books for the Batavia Public Library’s children’s collection. Pictured here with the students and their super-sized check are (from left)
